What Should Be Considered When Buying a Wooden Table?

1. First of all, producing a simple wooden table is easy, but producing a high-quality wooden table requires significant experience and technical knowledge. Therefore, if you want to buy a high-quality wooden table instead of a cheap one, you should prefer professional manufacturing facilities that specialize only in table production rather than small furniture workshops.
2. Most workshops do not have timber drying kilns, CNC routers, or calibration sanding machines. In many cases, they assume that wood can be dried by leaving it outdoors, or they purchase wood that has been dried by external suppliers. Even if wood is left outside for many years, it will not dry sufficiently because the cells do not properly open. In Turkey, there are very few companies that can dry wood to the required 8% moisture level for wooden table production. This is mainly because electricity costs are very high and wood drying itself is a specialized process. If the moisture level cannot be reduced below 8%, the wood cells will not properly stabilize, and tables produced from such wood often crack or warp. As Ravilla, we have five timber drying kilns, and since these kilns operate with solar heat, we do not have electricity costs and can dry our wood as long as necessary. 3. It is also important to know during which months the trees are cut. Trees cut between October and mid-March contain very little water. These trees are generally of higher quality and are less likely to warp or crack. In addition, they are less prone to insect infestation. Because these trees contain less moisture during this period, their colors are also more vibrant and aesthetically pleasing.
4. When contacting a company to purchase a wooden table, make sure to ask whether they have their own timber drying kiln. If they do, ask to what moisture level they dry the wood. Many manufacturers may not even provide this information.

5. Ask whether they use CNC machines to properly level and shape the wood with high precision.

6. Also ask whether they use calibration sanding machines to ensure that the sanding process is perfectly flat and does not result in uneven surfaces.

7. The quality of the adhesive used in wooden tables is extremely important to prevent joints from separating over time. You should ask the manufacturer which brand of adhesive and wood oil they use. Tables finished with teak oil or with thick varnish coatings that form a layer on the surface are often less practical and do not provide the same natural appearance.

8. You should also ask how the tables are packaged for transportation. Since wooden tables are heavy, they may be damaged during loading or unloading if they are not properly protected. The packaging should include corner protectors and wooden crates. Bubble wrap alone is usually not sufficient. 9. Finally, ask how the table will be assembled. Many table manufacturers use screw-based leg systems that require a power drill during installation, which you may not have at home.
